Rapper Yung Gravy performed in Weber Chapel on Saturday night, April 1 at Susquehanna’s annual Spring Concert.

Yung Gravy performed at 10 p.m. following DJ Bonics, the DJ for Wiz Khalifa who opened up the concert at 9 p.m.

Yung Gravy, 27, was first known for his song “Mr. Clean” which was released in 2016. He now has released four albums and seven EPs and has gone on ten international tours. His song “Betty (Get Money)” became his first song to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 30 in 2022.

His music is a blend of rap and inspired by oldies such as soul and funk. He often samples music from this time in his songs such as in his song “Mr. Clean” which famously samples the song “Mr. Sandman” by The Chordettes in 1954 and his song “Gravy Train” which samples “Right Back Where We Started From” by Maxine Nightingale in 1976.

The concert was free to all SU students and over 1,000 students were in attendance. The venue was originally meant to be outside in Tudor lot, however it was moved indoors to Weber Chapel due to the weather.

Yung Gravy brought merch available for purchase during the concert and he threw signed Lunchables and out into the crowd as well as handing out roses.

He also collected bras that concert spectators threw onto the stage as a part of Yung Gravy’s campaign in which he is known to collect fans bras at concerts and donate them to women’s shelters as well as matching the value of the bras in a donation to breast cancer charities.

The concert was hosted by the Student Activities Committee and planned by SAC President Lindsay Griffin with the help of Vice President Dara Tuttle and Director of PR Jake Lanning. “I’ve heard many great things from students, attendance was great and there were very few issues throughout the show as well,” commented Griffin, “It was a long day but seeing how many people were excited and had a great time makes all the hard work worth it.”
