Susquehanna recently held the annual Spring Concert event, a tradition that COVID-19 has disrupted for the last two years. I’ve heard mixed opinions about the concert; however, in my opinion, and based on my experience, I thought it was an enjoyable time.

Now, I’ll admit, I’m not the biggest fan of Jesse McCartney or Waka Flocka Flame. Sure, I like them, but would I pay to see either of their concerts? Probably not. However, a free concert, something to do on a Friday night, and a good time with my friends? I’m there.

Before I even get to the concert itself, I want to say that I think that the Spring Concert is a really neat tradition that Susquehanna has to offer its students. I transferred from a school the same size, if not slightly smaller than Susquehanna, and we never had a tradition of anything close to that.

So, was Jesse McCartney and Waka Flocka Flame a strange combination? Yes, they were. But it is still nice that a small school like Susquehanna does this for their students.

Now to the concert itself. As I said, I enjoyed it. I got there around 8:30, grabbed a spot right where the tent began and tried my best to see the stage. Now, I’m not entirely oblivious; I know there were issues with people pushing to get to the front or people pushing to get out, and yes, I got moved around a little, but it really just didn’t bother me, and I expected it to happen. Of course, I know everyone’s situation is unique.

Some people become anxious in large crowds with a lot of commotion, so I completely understand if that situation soured people’s memories of the concert. But for me, I was just happy to be there with my friends, having a good time. If I could see the stage, great; if not, it didn’t bother me. As long as I could hear, I was happy.

The bottom line is that despite some of the issues that came with the concert, overall, it was a success. It’s no secret that Selinsgrove isn’t always the most exciting town, so to have something like this was a nice change of pace. I know everyone’s experience was different, so I only speak for myself when I say this, but I think it was very enjoyable and entertaining.
