Women’s Golf Finish Season With Third Place Finish at Landmark Championships

We had talked on the way that we are going to play our game, if we play like we have been playing we thought we would have a good chance of bringing home the win. I think we did what we had to do to get the job done.”

On April 13, the Susquehanna women’s golf team got their second win of the season beating Juniata College at the Huntingdon Country Club. The River Hawks set the school record for lowest team round. The final score was 354-394.  

Senior captain Sarah Rieder, junior Ella Moores and sophomore Davis Ann Boyd all shot 13-over 84s. Freshman Erin Hahn tied for sixth place with a 31-over 102, while sophomore Julie Nield posted a 40-over 111 as an individual.  

Rieder said: “We really went into the match with a positive mindset, I’d say. We have been working hard at practice and have really been motivating each other to get better, try new shots and just overall have  more confidence.” 

“Throughout the match all of us executed what we learned in practice really well and we were happy with the outcome. After the match we were excited to see what the next one brings us and  how we can better ourselves for conferences,” Rieder continued. 

On April 14, the team remained undefeated and improved their record to 4-0 by beating Drew University and the University of Scranton in a three team event at the Glenmaura National Golf Club..  The River Hawks picked up the victory shooting a team total 90-over 378, while Drew and Scranton tied with a 118-over 406

Boyd got individual medalist honors as she carded a 16-over 88. Rieder and Moores tied for third place with a 20-over 92. First-year Hahn shot a 34-over 106,  finishing 11th in a 14-person field, while Nield carded a 58-over 130 as an individual. 

Boyd said: “I think going into the match against Scranton and Drew we were confident. “After the match we were all nervous waiting for our last two girls to finish and to hear the final results. After we had found out we won, me and the other girls immediately started to think about Saturday and what we need to do to bring home another win,” Boyd said. 

On April 17 the team played in the Landmark Conference Championship against Catholic, Goucher, Scranton, Drew and Juniata. The River Hawks came in third place overall with a team total 81-over  369. 

Catholic collected the Landmark Championship with a 64-over 352, while Goucher shot a 75-over 363, followed up by the River Hawks. Rounding out the rest of the leaderboard, Scranton shot an 85-over 373, Drew with a 111-over 399 and Juniata coming last with a 147-over 435.

Rieder carded a 12-over 84, Moores had a 16-over 88, Boyd had a 17-over 89r,Hahn shot a 36-over 108, while Nield posted a 41-over 113.. 

Rieder said: “After my round I was really excited to see how all my hard work had paid off. It was  especially exciting to see the progress I have made from the start of my career to then finishing second in the conference.” 

“The thing I’m going to miss most about the golf team is most definitely the girls and our coach, Kevin [Jamieson]. Everyone has always been so supportive, and it has been really great being able to play alongside such a great group of players,” Rieder continued.
