Track & Field Starts With Wins for Both Men’s and Women’s at Elizabethtown Meet

The men’s and women’s track and field team had their first meet in over a year at Elizabethtown College on March 27. Both the men and women placed first in the team competition. The men’s team had a total of 171 points, and the women’s team had a total of 170.5 points. 

On the men’s side, freshman Tyler Hauk claimed the best score in the discus with a throw of 39.79m, junior Keefer Goodspeed had a score of 4.25m in the pole vault and sophomore Isaiah Blatt came in second in the pole vault behind Goodspeed, with a score of 4.10m. 

Freshman Joey Masser came in first place in the high jump with 1.85m, and the long jump with 6.83m, while sophomore Jake Newell had a high jump of 1.75m. 

In the 100 meters, Masser came in second place with a time of 11.40 followed by Blatt in third with 11.48., Sophomore Ian Dyson had a time of 11.89. In the 5000 meters, junior Jack Warehime came in second place with a time of 16:21.50 followed by junior John Sabella with 16:24:30, and sophomore Shane Urban with 16:31:20. 

In the 1500 meters, Warehime took second place with a time of 4:06.53, while freshman Matt Masser finished in third place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.58 and freshman Blake Shellenberger came in fifth with 1:07.46. 

Junior Anthony Taddeo came in second place in the hammer throw of 42.62m while Hauk got in fifth place with a throw of 38.52m. Freshman Ryan MacDonald finished in second place in the shot put with a throw of 11.69m while Taddeo came in fourth with a throw of 11.28m. 

Freshman Jackson Mabry got a second-place finish in the triple jump with 13.31m. Shellenberger secured fourth place in the 110m hurdles with 18.27 followed by Masser in fifth with 18.84. Junior Sam Herbert got fifth place in the javelin with 41.19m. 

On the women’s side, senior Kate Ross had a time of 4:51.12 in the 1500 meters followed by sophomore Kallan Carter in second with a time of 4:52.91 and freshman Emma Meyers in fifth place at 5:29.19. 

Carter said: “Going into the meet, I was really nervous, but overall, definitely pumped! Especially on the bus ride there, I was anxious. It’s been over a year now since our team has last competed, but I was so excited to get out there and leave it all on the track.” 

“It felt exhilarating to finally compete again. After the meet, I was so happy and proud of myself and my teammates. We really gave it our all, and I’m very excited to see where we are heading  come champs,” Carter continued.  

Senior Kristen Blair won the hammer throw with a distance of 38.94m, while junior Abigail Sholders placed fifth with a throw of 29.62m. 

Freshman Maggie Boyer posted a winning throw of 10.95m in the shot put, while Sholders secured a fourth-place finish with 8.91m. Boyer also added a fourth-place finish in the discus with a throw of  29.17m. 

Senior Sara Arbogast took the individual title in both the long jump (5.21m) and the triple jump (10.45m) while freshman Abby Korba followed in second place with 10.24m and junior Megan Emlet placed third  in the long jump with a jump of 4.82m. Freshman Julia Acevedo came in fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 9.67m. 

Freshman Chloe Yoder secured second place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.00. Arbogast finished second in the 100 meters with a time of 12.64 while freshman Alexa Rine came in fourth in 13.16. Senior Rachel Seiler secured a second-place finish in the 400m hurdles in 1:20.14 while Rine posted a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters in 28.19. 

Ross picked up a third-place finish in the 5000 meters with a time of 19:04.43 while freshmen Caitlyn Kuhn, Isabella Lentini and Yoder and sophomore Sarah Urban took third in the 4x400m relay. 

Emlet got fourth place in the high-jump with a jump of 1.42m while Blair finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 31.04m.
