Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track Place Top Three in Landmark Championships

We [women’s team] got second for the first time in years so no one can be upset with that. Everyone came to compete and had great performances, so it’s getting us even more excited for the outdoor season where we hope to do even better

The Susquehanna men’s and women’s indoor track teams both competed on Saturday, Feb. 29 at the Landmark Championships in the James W. Garrett Sports Complex Field House with the women’s team finishing second behind Moravian with 110 points and the men’s team finishing in third place for the third-straight year.

The women’s team was able to pick up seven All-Landmark awards with junior Sara Arbogast picking up two, while also contributing 28 points alone on the day for Susquehanna.

Arbogast also claimed the Landmark Field Athlete of the Year award, while taking first place in both the long jump, with a personal record of 5.44m, and the triple jump, with a 10.98m mark. In addition, she finished in fourth place in the 60m dash with a time of 8.14.

Junior Kristen Blair picked up her first All-Landmark honor with a first-place finish in the weight throw with a personal record of 13.17m.

Senior Samantha Reed picked up her fourth All-Landmark honor with a second-place finish in the 400m dash, earning a personal record of 1:01.24 and also placing third in the 200m dash with a time of 27.29.

Junior Kate Ross earned All-Landmark Second Team honors in the 800m run with a second-place finish while also placing third in the mile run with a personal record time of 5:19.43. In addition, she finished ninth in the 3000m run with a personal best time of 10:58.30.

Sophomore Abigail Sholders earned her first-ever Second Team award in the weight throw with a career-best throw of 13.00m.

Sophomore Megan Emlet took home a second-place finish in the long jump with a personal record of 5.19m.

Junior Ryleigh Edmonds finished third in the pole vault with a 3.04m vault

Senior Maya Khanna placed third in the triple jump with a personal record jump of 10.44m.

Sophomore Jenna Juntunen had a fourth-place finish in the weight throw and a personal record of 12.50m. She also finished fifth in the shot put with a personal best of 9.79m.

The distance medley relay of senior Alexa Pietrini, freshman Sarah Urban, sophomore Anastasia Farley, and senior Emily Eck grabbed third with a time of 13:46.55.

Ross, Arbogast, Pietrini, and Reed put together a time of 4:15.13 which was good for a fourth-place finish in the 4x400m relay.

Urban, senior Morgan Markle, freshman Brooke Leitzel, and freshman Lizabeth Fessler ran the 4x200m relay, finishing in fifth with a time of 1:55.67.

Emlet led the way for Susquehanna with a seventh-place finish in the high jump with a personal record of 1.42m, while sophomores Amy Fischer and Fiona Blake finished in ninth and tenth, respectively, as they both jumped 1.32m.

“I think the team did some really great things this past weekend,” Khanna said. “We [women’s team] got second for the first time in years so no one can be upset with that. Everyone came to compete and had great performances, so it’s getting us even more excited for the outdoor season where we hope to do even better.”

“I think people should expect Susquehanna to be a force to reckoned with,” she added. “We have a lot of talent on the team and Coach Senecal and the coaching staff are just going to keep building on that and help us to be at the top end of the conference.”

Moving onto the men’s side, the River Hawks were able to earn nine All-Landmark honors through six athletes with Chris Petraskie earning two First Team honors in addition to being able to total 36 points for Susquehanna.

Petraskie was able to defend the title in the high jump for the fourth straight season with a first-place finish of 1.93m along with a first-place finish in the long jump with a jump of 7.01m to become a three-time defending champ of the event.

He also finished second in the triple jump with a 13.41m jump and finished fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 23.27.

Sophomore Keefer Goodspeed earned All-Landmark First Team for a first-place finish in the pole vault with a personal-best vault of 4.40m.

Freshman Chance Singleton earned an All-Landmark second-team award, finishing second in the 400m dash with a personal record of 51.66 and taking fifth in the 60m dash with a time of 8.22.

Junior Da’Avian Ellington notched a second-place finish with a career-best time of 8.78 in the 60m hurdles to earn himself a spot on the All-Landmark second team.

Freshman Isaiah Blatt grabbed a second-place finish in the pole vault with a vault of 4.25m to earn an All-Landmark second-team honor.

Senior Dylan Heisey finished second in both the shot put and weight throw to earn him two All-Landmark second-team awards with the weight throw being a personal record of 15.83m.

Sophomore Jack Warehime picked up a third-place finish in the mile run, tallying a career record time of 4:20.19, while also finishing in eighth in the 800m run for a time of 2:05.06.

Senior Alejandro Gillespie, senior Andrew DeBastiani, freshman Ian Dyson, and sophomore Trent Maguire took second place in the 4x200m relay in a time of 1:35.98

Maguire, Dyson, Petraskie, and Singleton ran for fourth place in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:33.39.

Freshman Bradshaw Henning, Dyson, junior Leonard Bolinsky, and freshman Shane Urban of the distance medley relay finished fourth with a time of 11:27.57.

Senior Robert Marks earned a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a  jump of 6.76m and a fifth-place finish in the high jump with a jump of 1.73m.

Freshman Keith Green finished fourth place in the triple jump, while senior Kashief Hyatt finished fifth in the shot-put event with a 12.85m throw.

Sophomore Jonathon White notched a fifth-place finish in the 200m, while McGuire finished sixth in the long jump with a personal record jump of 6.59m.

Sophomore John Sabella finished 13th in the 5000m run while also finishing 21st in the 3000m run.

“I feel the meet started off strong,” Marks said. “I think we had some really strong performances early in the day and towards the end started to fall off. I think as a team we could’ve put up a better fight. Moving forward, I think this program is going to continue to grow and become a powerful force in the Landmark.”

With the Landmark Championships behind them, you can catch both the men and the women back in action for the AARTFC Indoor Championships at Nazareth College in Rochester, New York on March 6 and 7.
