Track and Field Sets Personal Records

The Susquehanna men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed in the SU Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 15 in Selinsgrove, Pa. The men’s team finished with 14 top-10 finishes and 14 personal records and the women’s team finished with 11 top-10 finishes and nine personal records.

For the men’s team, freshman Chance Singleton ran for a personal record of 23:30 in the 200m dash to compliment a second-place finish with sophomore Jonathon White not far behind with a fourth-place finish with a time of 23:35.

Freshman pole vaulter Isaiah Blatt earned a second-place finish in the pole vault and was able to clear 4.35m with Keefer Goodspeed earning a third-place finish being able to clear 4.20m.

The distance medley relay consisting of sophomore Jack Warehiem and freshmen Shane Urban, Bradshaw Hennings, and Ian Dyson put together a time of 11:22.43 which earned them a second-place finish at the Invitational.

Senior Dylan Heisey finished third in the weight throw with an AARFTC qualifying throw of 15.10m and sophomore Anthony Taddeo finished sixth with a throw of 14.11m.

Heisey was also able to finish sixth in the shot put with a throw of 13.76m with freshman Keith Green recording a personal record of 13.08 in the triple jump to finish in seventh. Senior jumper Robert Marks, meanwhile, jumped 6.43m in the long jump to finish ninth.

The 400m dash saw Singleton finish in sixth with a time of 52.57 with White finishing in seventh with a time of 53.07.  Freshman Hunter Coulter also achieved a personal record in the 60m dash, finishing with a time of 7.54 for a 28th place finish. The 800m run saw Urban run for a personal best as well, finishing with a time of 2:13.34 for 33rd place.

  “Everyone performed well,” senior Donovan Gayles said. “On paper, we are looking to score very high at champs. I think if everyone brings their “A” game, we would have a good shot at winning indoor champs.”

The women’s team saw senior Samantha Reed finish second in both the 200m with a time of 27.00 and as a part of the distance medley relay alongside junior Kate Ross, senior Alexa Pietrini, and freshman Kallan Carter for a time of 12:55.70.

Junior Sara Arbogast had another AARFTC qualifying mark in the triple mark jump and had a finish of third with 11.29m. Arbogast also earned a third-place finish in the 60m dash trials with a time of 8.16 and a fourth-place finish in the finals with a time of 8.19. In addition, Arbogast finished seventh with 5.22m for the long jump.

Junior pole vaulter Ryleigh Edmonds placed fifth in the pole vault with 3.06m at the Invitational.

Continuing to find success for the River Hawks, junior Marissa Kleman, senior Emily Eck, and senior Katherine Mayer all finished the mile run with personal records. Kleman finished with 5:37.77 for fifth, Eck finished with 5:40.34 for ninth, and Mayer 5:47.35 for a 16th place finish.

Two personal records were set by junior Kristen Blair and sophomore Abigail Sholders in the weight throw. Blair placed 11th with a throw of 12.25m and Sholders placed 14th with a throw of 11.94

Ross also had a career-best on the day for the 3000m run with a time of 11:01.09 and a ninth-place finish.

To close things out for Susquehanna, freshman Sarah Urban, sophomore Anastasia Farley, Mayer, and Pietrini placed seventh in the 4x400m relay.

“Everyone performed really well and we even had some personal records,” Junior hurdler Rachel Seiler said. “Everyone’s been working really hard and we’re ready for champs. Our goal has been to beat Elizabethtown and Moravian and that’s what we’re going to do.”

With high standards and ambitions, the River Hawks will next compete at the Bucknell Tune-Up on Friday, Feb. 21 at Bucknell University in their final meet before the Landmark Indoor Championships.
