One of the greatest things about life is that the journey brings a lot of new experiences. This is a very exciting time in life, however, it can also be one of the scariest. One of the newest changes in my life is moving to college. Everyone talks about how college is the best time of their life, but nobody talks about how scary it can be. I moved from Florida at the beginning of the semester, so I’m still getting used to everything, especially the weather change. Almost my whole life I’ve lived in the same house, so this is the biggest change I have ever made. I have to go out and learn new things, make new friends, and find my way around, virtually by myself. Trying out new things can be new and exciting, but there’s always the chance you might not be good at it. All of my friends and family are a thousand miles away, so if something goes wrong it’s harder to have someone to lean on. There’s a lot riding on the choice of coming to Susquehanna and staying here, such as my entire future. I transferred from a different college, so this would make me a second semester freshman. Since it is my second semester in college, I’m treated like it’s my second semester here and not my first. I was scared that I wouldn’t have anyone to show me around because of that. Adding to the new experiences, I’ve never had to share a room before, so getting used to a roommate was nerve wracking. There’s a lot of pressure that comes with meeting someone for  the time in a room that you are now going to have to share with them for roughly four months. Waiting to meet your roommate is agonizing.

What if you don’t get along? When there’s all these thoughts floating around in your mind, it’s hard to make the choice to leave home to go to college. When you’re going through a process like this, it’s easy to get caught up in all of the negative and not see what’s actually important. What got me here and really pulled me along these past few weeks was making sure I kept my eyes on the prize. I knew that once I got past the hard parts, such as driving from Florida, leaving my family, making new friends, this change wouldn’t be as frightening. I’m glad that I stuck it out, because all of my fears about moving here were easily put to rest. I’m making new friends and getting along with a lot of people, especially my roommate. I’ve been going to club meetings and classes, and I’m really getting into the Susquehanna spirit.

Now, instead of fearing the future and what it holds, I’m eager to see what’s coming next. There’s always going to be a time in life when you have to take a leap of faith and hope everything works out. Even though it’s challenging, you just have to stick it out and focus on the end goal.
