The Susquehanna men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Landmark Conference Championships in Colmar Manor, Md on Nov. 2. 

The women’s team placed fourth out of seven competing teams at the event, led by junior Marissa Kleman who placed third at the meet. The men’s cross country team placed last out of the six competing teams at the tournament with a score of 147, which was the combined placing of Susquehanna’s top five finishers. The team’s average pace was 28:50.25. Elizabethtown College lead the way with an average time of 26:40.48.

Sophomore Jack Warehime led the way for the River Hawks with a ninth-place finish in the 8K event that was good enough to earn him a spot on the Landmark Conference second team. He finished with a time of 27:03.55, slightly off from his personal record set at Rowan University of 26:19.10 in October.

Freshman Shane Urban finished as an impressive second finisher for Susquehanna. He placed 32ndoverall with a time of 28:20.64. Sophomore John Sabella placed third for Susquehanna with a time of 28:50.71, placing him at 42nd in the tournament. 

Junior Jake Menchey placed fourth for the team with a time of 28:56.56, which was 44th overall. Senior Brandon Sorge rounded out the scoring for the River Hawks. His time of 30:59.77 placed him at 65th out of the 82 finishing runners.

Senior Rob Masters was sixth for Susquehanna, placing 73rd with a time of 32:53.21. Freshman Bradshaw Henning was close behind with a time of 33:08.36, good enough for 74th overall. Freshman Thomas Simmers rounded out the River Hawks’ team in eighth place with a time of 33:15.41, placing 76th overall.

Kleman led the way for the women’s cross country team as she placed third overall to earn a spot on the Landmark Conference first team. She finished with a time of 23:20.32 in the 6k event, slightly off her personal best of 22:39.50 at Rowan University in October.

The women’s cross country team had a score of 89 with an average time of 24:34.97 at the event Saturday. Elizabethtown also led the women’s race with an average scoring time of 23:44.59.

Senior Erin Reese was the second finisher for the River Hawks with a time of 23:43.15. Reese placed ninth overall, which earned her a spot on the Landmark Conference Second Team. Freshman Kallan Carter was third for the River Hawks with a time of 23:58.61. This was good enough for 11th place overall, while Carter was also placed on the Landmark Conference Second Team and earned Rookie of the Year honors. 

Senior Emily Eck placed fourth for the River Hawks with a time of 25:39.00 and a 36th place finish.. Senior Alexa Pietrini rounded out the scoring for the River Hawks with a time of 26:13.77, placing her at 45th.

Other finishers for Susquehanna were senior Katherine Mayer in 50tht with a 26:56.87 time, sophomore Callie Rohrer in 66th with a time of 28:00.77, junior Jillian Michales in 67th with a time of 28.02.76, sophomore Anatasia Farley in 71st with a time of 28:56.46, freshman Meghan McDonald in 73rd with a time of 29:19.59 and senior Joy Lyle in 77th with a time of 30:48.84.

The men and women’s cross country teams will continue their season on Nov. 16 at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regionals in Bethlehem, Pa.
