Phi Beta Sigma partnered with Men’s Warehouse for their “Dress for Success” event aimed at promoting ideas of professional advancement for students on Oct.14 in Degenstein Campus Center.

The event gave advice in how to dress professionally, perform professional etiquette and preparation for interviews and also discussed how Men’s Warehouse can help to meet these needs.

President of Phi Beta Sigma Anthony McCoy played a key role in organizing the event. “We wanted to bring to the campus ways to dress professionally and different tips for interviewing,” McCoy said. “We thought the best way to do it was to go to Men’s Warehouse…We just wanted to give that to the people [at Susquehanna].” “Dress for Success” helped to meet these goals for Phi Beta Sigma.

The fraternity also has a partnership with Men’s Warehouse, making collaboration on the presentation seamless.

“We were like, ‘Let’s take it to another level,’” McCoy said. Melissa Johnson with Harrisburg’s Men’s Warehouse store was the presenter of “Dress for Success.” Johnson sees many positives that can come from the ideas presented in “Dress for Success.”

“The purpose is to spread knowledge to young individuals about the business world. We are finding people can have a hard time figuring out how to dress for an interview or what you should expect in an interview, so we are here to help,” Johnson said.

For the interview portion of the presentation, Johnson put a key emphasis on resume preparation, where she noted the essentials of citing basic skills like teamwork, leadership and customer service skills.

She also noted that catering resumes to specific positions will help with achieving interview success. Johnson also noted that companies have begun reviewing social media profiles of prospective candidates as part of the application process.

Dressing the part is also a key component of a great impression, and the different ways to prepare for different types of business dress were discussed.

Business professional, business formal and business casual dress were overviewed while showing the ways in which Men’s Warehouse could meet these different dress types.

Johnson wrapped up the event and discussed ways in which Men’s Warehouse can help with enhancing a professional image.

She discussed how Men’s Warehouse can help with career advancement advice as well as how the company offers flexible summer opportunities.
