The Susquehanna women’s lacrosse team picked up a 13–8 victory over Immaculata on Tuesday, April 23 on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove, Pa.

The River Hawks were able to get on the board first, as senior attacker Kaitlin Homberg scored a goal assisted by freshman midfielder Katie Hoerman just 41 seconds into the game.

Immaculata quickly responded by scoring a goal just a minute later to tie the score at one.

Later in the first half, Susquehanna went on a fourgoal run to extend their lead 5-1, but the Mighty Macs once again answered by scoring two goals of their own to keep the game within reach and trail Susquehanna 5-3.

With the first half winding down, junior attacker Stephanie Dowling and senior attacker Kathrina DeMaio both found the back of the net to give Susquehanna an 8–3 lead heading into the break.

In the second half, the game was a bit more closely contested, as Immaculata came out firing and found success early, trimming the deficit to 8–6.

DeMaio once again came up clutch, scoring two pivotal goals to stop the run and extend Susquehanna’s lead to 10–6. Dowling then added another goal of her own on a free position shot to give the River Hawks even more breathing room with a score of 11-6.

As the game winded down, Immaculata scored twice more, but it wouldn’t be enough as Susquehanna also found the back of the net twice more, leading to a final score of 13–8 in favor of the River Hawks.

“Our success came from all of us working together as a team for all 60 minutes,” Dowling said.

Sophomore midfielder Nicole Hauck and Dowling scored the final two goals for Susquehanna.

Overall, DeMaio led the way with four goals while Dowling followed with three of her own. In addition, senior attacker Brooke Klair led the team with five points on the day.

Hoerman had four ground balls and led the team with four draw controls while senior defender Alison Elf made her presence felt on defense by causing three turnovers.

In the net, junior goalie Libby Dex made 14 saves to anchor the Susquehanna defense.

The River Hawks will host Elizabethtown College at noon on April 27 in Selinsgrove for their senior day match.
