Junior attacker Stephanie Dowling and sophomore midfielder Nicole Hauck combined for nine goals to lead the Susquehanna women’s lacrosse team to a 19–10 victory over Landmark Conference-rival Goucher College on Saturday, April 13 in Selinsgrove, Pa.

Early on in the game, the River Hawks immediately found success and jumped out to a 6–0 lead. Hauck led the charge by scoring two goals during the stretch and Dowling added one of her own.

In addition, sophomore midfielder Alison Heimer, senior attacker Helena Woytovich and freshman defender/ midfielder Katie Hoerman all scored as well.

As the half continued on, the Gophers finally found the back of the net, but Susquehanna didn’t let off the pressure. Goals from Hauck, Woytovich and senior attacker Kathrina Demaio extended the lead to 9–1. With the half winding down, Goucher began to make a push by scoring four straight goals and five of the last six goals of the first half. At the end of the first 30 minutes of play, however, Hauck once again scored, keeping Susquehanna’s lead at 11–6.

With the second half underway, the River Hawks continued to remain in control of the contest, scoring six of the second half’s first seven goals to push the lead up to 17–7.

Once again, it was Dowling who led the charge, netting the first two goals within four minutes of the start of the half. After Goucher responded less than a minute later, Hauck notched another goal, and Demaio and Dowling followed her up with three more goals: two from Demaio and one from Dowling.

Both Katie and Christine Hoerman scored goals in the waning minutes of the game to increase the lead.

As the minutes ticked off the clock, Goucher added three more goals, but Susquehanna’s attack proved to be too much as the River Hawks earned a 19–10 victory. Overall, Dowling led the charge with eight total points on the day, while Hauck’s five goals was a career high for her. Hoerman also contributed to the team’s attack, totaling six points on three goals and three assists, while Demaio scored three goals and contributed an assist.

Defensively, junior goalie Libby Dex had 16 saves and five ground balls, while Woytovich and sophomore defender Sarah Bobrowski each picked up four ground balls of their own.

The River Hawks will travel to Washington D.C. to take on the Cardinals of Catholic at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 18.
