Klair scores 100th point against LVC

Senior attacker Brooke Klair eclipsed the 100-career point mark but the Susquehanna women’s lacrosse team dropped a tough 23–9 loss to Lebanon Valley College in a non-conference game on Wednesday, Feb. 27 in Selinsgrove.

The Dutchmen (1–1) were the first to strike and score a goal after just two minutes of play.

The River Hawks (0–2) answered back and went on a three-point run to give Susquehanna a 3–2 advantage.

Senior attacker Helena Woytovich scored the first two goals with assists from senior attacker Brooke Klair.

Klair scored the third goal of the game with an assist from junior attacker Stephanie Dowling.

After two Dutchmen goals, junior attacker Gabi Toohey put the River Hawks back on the board with an assist from Klair to tie the score 4–4.

Lebanon Valley scored another pair of goals. Sophomore Alison Heimer scored an unassisted goal for the River Hawks to advance the score to 6–5 in favor of the Dutchmen.

The River Hawks and the Dutchmen exchanged goals and Lebanon Valley gained control of the game with five minutes to go in the half. Lebanon Valley went on a four-point run to have a 11–6 lead at halftime.

Susquehanna got on the board first in the second half of the game when senior attacker Kathrina DeMaio scored an unassisted goal.

The Dutchmen answered with three goals and Klair found the net again to cut the Dutchmen’s lead to 14–8.

Lebanon Valley went on a nine-goal scoring streak and Dowling scored the final goal of the game with just six seconds left to bring the final score to 23–9.

LVC has 33 shots on goal compared to Susquehanna’s 17. The Dutchmen picked up 21 ground balls, while Susquehanna recorded 11.

Dowling led Susquehanna with seven shots.

Junior goalie Libby Dex made 10 saves in the net for the River Hawks.

Freshman defender/ midfielder Katie Hoerman had seven draw controls and also led the team with two caused turnovers on the day.

LVC broke its record of the most goals scored in a game with 23. The team’s previous record was 22 goals, scored in their win over Hood last season on April 11.

Sophomore attacker Veronica Venezie led the Dutchmen with five goals.

The River Hawks return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 2 in Selinsgrove.
