The Susquehanna women’s lacrosse team was unable to dig themselves out of an early hole against Catholic and fell 11-4 on Saturday, April 7.

Junior attack Kathrina DeMaio finished the game with a hat trick for the River Hawks.

The Cardinals’ Nicolette Crisalli led all scorers in the game with five goals.

Susquehanna also struggled to convert on opportunities with free-position shots, going 0-3 on the day while Catholic converted 2-7.

Catholic scored every goal of the first half and went into halftime with a 9-0 lead.

Susquehanna finally got their offense going in the form of two goals from Demaio within the first five minutes of the second half.

Susquehanna and Catholic traded goals after the early scoring outburst from Demaio, to make the score 10-3 with seven minutes to go in the game. The second half was a more defensive game, with scoring being hard to come by for both teams.

The betterment defensively could be sourced to sophomore goalie Libby Dex, who recorded 20 saves throughout the game, 15 of those being in the second half. Dex saw a large number of shots during the game and faced 40 total shots on the afternoon, as the River Hawks struggled to create turnovers.

Susquehanna kept battling in the final minutes of the game. The River Hawks tacked on another score with a goal from senior attack Caroline Rabiecki.

Catholic, however, would go on to score again in the closing minutes of the game with a free position goal to make the score 11-4.

The score would remain 11-4 until the end, leading the River Hawks to remain winless in conference play thus far into the season, while the Cardinals maintained their undefeated record in the Landmark Conference.

Despite the loss, Susquehanna outscored the Cardinals in the second half 4-2 and played much better overall.

The River Hawks look to rack up their first conference win away against Goucher on Saturday, April 14.

The Gophers have struggled so far this season as they have been blown out in almost every game this season. Their worst loss came at the hands of Landmark opponent Scranton, who drubbed them for a 21-4 loss.

Their only win so far this season came against conference-foe Juniata, who they narrowly edged out 11-10.

Shannon Stull lead all players on the day with five goals. Gopher goalie Bridget Den Boer recorded 13 saves in the win over the Eagles.

Game time for the River Hawks is at 1 p.m.
