Susquehanna Women’s Soccer remains undefeated to start the season with a dominating 4-1 win over Penn State Harrisburg Wednesday afternoon at Sassafras Field.
Susquehanna (3-0) came out quickly, with junior midfielder Amelia Kopp finding the net just six minutes and 17 seconds into the game. The assist on the goal came from junior midfielder Ella Briggs.
Susquehanna kept strong throughout the first half, adding on two more goals before the half. First, senior defender Olivia St. Amand found a lane and scored after a exceptional pass from junior forward Ava Billmeyer.
Then at 25:00 junior midfielder Kim Dalessio put one in the net to stretch the lead to 3-0; with Billmeyer recording her second assists of the match.
The first half saw the River Hawks dominate the possession stats, outshooting Penn State Harrisburg (0-2-1) 10-4.
Penn State Harrisburg added a goal to the board at 65:00 from a penalty kick.
Susquehanna responded quickly at 69:00 with a Billmeyer goal, making it her second goal scored early this season. Junior midfielder Liv Baczor and junior midfielder Kate Adelman both picked up the assist from Billmeyer’s goal.
Susquehanna held on for the last 20 minutes of the game, giving the RIver Hawks the 4-1 win and a 3-0 start to the season.
Billmeyer led Susquehanna in the win with one goal and two assists. Kopp, St. Amand, and Dalessio each recorded one goal. Briggs, Baczor, and Adelman each had an assist.
“They gave us a lot of time and space to take as many shots as we wanted,” said St. Amand.
The River Hawks recorded 16 total shots as Penn State Harrisburg recorded 10. Both teams had seven shots on goal. Susquehanna had five saves while Penn State Harrisburg had three.
Senior Defender said, “I feel like we have a very good relationship on and off the field, so I feel like that definitely contributes to our chemistry on the field.”
The River Hawks will be taking an undefeated start on the road for the first time this season as they take on DeSales on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. This will be the start of a five-game away stretch for Susquehanna.
