With the reminiscing-of-the-2010s aesthetic recirculating this award season–whether it’s Sarah Pidgeon becoming her own variant of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, or Kendall Jenner’s carpet look being one pair of jelly sandals away from becoming a Polly Pocket–there’s one color choice that we’ll (hopefully) being seeing more of as we approach the summer: teal.
Fashion speaks, and on the night of the Oscars, Chanel was screaming how badly it wants a mermaid-girl summer.
Pidgeon sported a lace-detailed Chanel slip dress with floral accents at the pre-show dinner, hosted by the luxury fashion house and Charles Finch. No eccentric bubble skirt or rhinestone gown could achieve the effortless glamour channeled by Pidgeon’s new alter-ego–Carolyn Bessette Kennedy (CBK).
CBK, as honored by Pidgeon in Hulu’s freshly released Love Story, has taught us that being simple is a new level of chic that is attainable for just about anyone. It’s a kitten heel, a practical trench coat, a pair of business trousers.
And in this case, a seemingly plain spaghetti strap slip dress.
CBK was notorious for limiting her style choices to the black-beige-white color palette, but let’s face it: spring will come quicker if we wear bright colors (right?). Word on the street is that 2016 is back anyways.
At the dinner, we saw Love Story real-time dance content between Pidgeon and her costar Paul Anthony Kelly (or as we know him: modern-era JFK Jr.).
How lucky are we?
Maybe not as lucky as the Chanel beaded gown that had the privilege of being worn by Kendall Jenner at Vanity Fair’s famous afterparty.
Paired with nothing other than dainty Tiffany & Co. droplet diamond earrings, the corset-style dress made everyone stop, stare, and ask themselves one thing:
“Why isn’t the color teal more normalized?”
Jenner is a seasoned veteran of the annual afterparty and was, as always, accompanied by her sisters on the carpet.
