Graphic Design and Studio Art Senior Showcase: The Synergy of Success

The Graphic Design and Studio Art Senior Showcase, Synergy, took place on Mar. 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Lore Degenstein Gallery. A line, or rather a crowd, formed outside of the gallery before it opened its doors. The papers covering the doors of the gallery were finally torn down to reveal the project that the SU seniors have been working on in secret.

Each student had their logo and name displayed in vinyl above their work. Photography, beer bottles, posters for music festivals, digital art, programs, and a myriad of designs were presented. Their diligence paid off.

The gallery was transformed into a hall of accomplishment. The seniors, who stood in front of their work, beamed as parents, professors, and students looked at their creations. Refreshments were provided in the lobby, and people mingled before professors presented the students and recognized their hard work.

One graphic design senior, Ginger Brown, described the process as “pretty stressful.” She said that the students had a lot of deadlines to meet for the showcase.

Brown also said “But luckily my peers were there to help me through it all. That was also my first time on a ladder hammering nails into a wall.” The seniors were in charge of the entire curation and the installation, from placing their names on the walls to formatting and hanging up their artwork.

Brown described her peers as “family.”

“Everyday we are in CCMA 102, working together, each with our own creative minds, to make our projects. I would not be the designer I am today without them, and I think that’s what Synergy means to me.” She cited the “culture” of the program as her favorite part, discussing how her “professors work so hard to create such an awesome atmosphere, where students can truly grow from working with each other.”

Following the overwhelming success of the program at the American Advertising Federation (AAF) of Northeastern Pennsylvania Addy’s, where seven students brought back nineteen awards with three golds, two judge choice, two silvers, and best in show; this showcase only further exemplified the merit of the seniors and the program here at SU.

The exhibition will be displayed until Apr. 27th at the Lore Degenstein Gallery. The gallery is free and open to the public Monday through Sunday from 11 to 5 p.m.
