The Susquehanna University women’s basketball team made history Wednesday night, earning its first 20-win season in 30 years with a commanding 99–57 victory over Goucher College.
From the opening tip, the River Hawks controlled the pace and energy of the game. Susquehanna came out firing offensively, matching a program record 31 points in the first quarter to quickly build separation.
The fast start set the tone for the rest of the night, as the River Hawks continued to push the tempo and capitalize on efficient shooting to take a 56–27 lead into halftime.
Sydney Weyant led the offensive surge, finishing with a game-high 22 points while knocking down three shots from beyond the arc in the first half alone.
Susquehanna’s success, however, came from its balanced attack. Annie Greek and Julia Roth provided consistent scoring support, helping the River Hawks maintain momentum as the lead continued to grow.
The dominance didn’t slow after the break. Susquehanna added another strong third quarter before closing the game comfortably in the fourth.
A late three-pointer from Zoie Maffei extended the River Hawks’ advantage to 43 points, their largest margin of the night, highlighting a performance where contributions came from everyone on the team.
Efficiency played a major role in the win, as Susquehanna shot over 55 percent from the field while also controlling the boards with a significant rebounding edge.
The River Hawks consistently turned defensive stops into transition opportunities, allowing them to sustain offensive pressure throughout all four quarters.
Roth finished with 18 points on an efficient shooting night, while Carly George recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds and added seven assists in an all-around performance.
Greek contributed 11 points and six rebounds, and Maffei added seven points while grabbing nine rebounds to help anchor the team’s effort on the glass.
With the victory, Susquehanna improves to 20–4 overall and continues to build momentum heading toward postseason play. The milestone win not only reflects the team’s success this season but also marks a significant moment for a program continuing to establish itself among the Landmark Conference’s top contenders.
The River Hawks will return home Saturday, Feb 21 at 4:00 p.m. for Senior Day as they look to close their historic regular season on a high note.
