Susquehanna Prepares For High-Profile Visitor

Posted on November 3, 2025 by The Quill

By Lauren Quinn

What is the first number that everyone at Susquehanna tells you to call when you have a problem? The answer: Campus Safety’s. With former Vice President Mike Pence scheduled to visit Susquehanna’s campus in February 2026, safety protocols have been kicked into high gear.

“Safety is always a top priority, especially when welcoming high-profile guests on campus. Each event requires tailored approaches to support the security and operational needs of the speaker,” said a representative from Campus Safety.

After an incident occurred at a vigil held for Charlie Kirk where an attendee not affiliated with the University filmed students at the event and approached a protestor, Campus Safety has heightened their senses when it comes to student and staff protection when guests of national reputation are on campus.

Campus Safety stated that when Pence is on campus, they will “engage outside agencies, including law enforcement, to support security considerations,” as well as limit student and faculty access to the location where Pence will be speaking prior to the event.

It is also likely that all attendees will be required to undergo screening and be prohibited to bring bags into the venue location.

While the incident at the vigil occurred because there was a member of the public on campus, Campus Safety reported that there most likely will be a limited number of tickets available for the public to attend Pence’s visit “after the on-campus demand for tickets is assessed.”

The University has taken into consideration the possibility of an incident occurring in February, but “cannot respond to hypothetical scenarios” at this time.

A Campus Safety representative concluded that “security remains a top priority as we plan and prepare for potential contingencies.”

As Pence’s visit gets closer, precautions will be put in place on campus to ensure that the event goes smoothly, with no bumps along the way.
