Josh Brown’s header in the second half was all it took for undefeated Haverford to defeat the men’s soccer team 1-0 on Saturday at Sassafras Field in non-conference action.
In a game that took some time for both teams to settle in, it was all Haverford in the first 20 minutes. Their aggressive defense led to many opportunities for the attack, which saw the Fords take 11 of their 24 shots in the match.
Susquehanna (1-4) didn’t attempt a single shot in the scoreless first half, while Haverford (3-0-3) had 14. Susquehanna first-year goalie Finn Kramer was still able to put up an impressive performance, with six of his career-high 11 saves coming in the first half.

The second half started about the same as the first, with the game really unfolding later on. In the 73rd minute, Haverford finally struck first after Brown’s header in front of the net after a great cross kick from Carter Kroenke. From there, Haverford was able to hold on, escaping multiple attack attempts from Susquehanna to secure a one-goal win.
“We’ve got some good young players,” SU coach Jim Findlay said. “They’re hungry, they’re talented and when they get an opportunity in games, they tend to make things happen… We might not be scoring goals, but we’re possessing the ball and creating some half chances.”

SU’s next test will come against Penn State Harrisburg on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Sassafras Field.
“We have to compete for 90 minutes,” Findlay said. “We can’t play as hard as we did at the end of the first half and then stretch in the second half and expect to win.”
