Women’s Track and Field scores 13 top-10 finishes

The Susquehanna women’s track and field team traveled to Reading, Pa. and Brockport, New York to compete this past weekend. The pole vaulters traveled to Brockport for the College of Brockport Multi on Feb. 7 and 8, while the rest of the team traveled to Alvernia University for the Plex Shootout on Feb. 8 where the team acquired 13 top-10 finishes.

Junior Ryleigh Edmonds placed 13th in the pole vault with a vault of 3.05m and freshman Brooke Leitzel came in 20th with a vault of 2.60m.

The women’s team picked up three of the top-five spots in the 400m, as senior Samantha Reed achieved a personal record and the Landmark Conference second-best time of 1:02.27. Junior Kate Ross came in fourth, finishing in 1:02.77 and junior Sara Arbogast came in fifth with a time of 1:03.76.

Freshman Kallan Carter, senior Alexa Pietrini, sophomore Anastasia Farley, and Ross ran the 4X400m relay and came in fourth in 4:23.31.

Freshman Lizabeth Fessler placed sixth in the 60m dash in 8.37. Carter achieved a personal record for sixth in the 8000m. Marissa Kleman also achieved a personal record and league 12th-best time in the 3000m, placing ninth.

Three triple jump athletes placed within the top 10. Sophomore Faith Shaffer placed fourth with a personal record and the league’s third-best mark of 10.69m. Senior Maya Khanna came in ninth with a tally of 10.15m, followed by Fessler in 10th.

Khanna also accomplished a personal record in the long jump, while also earning a league 15th-best mark of 4.60m to come in 16th place.

Sophomore Jenna Juntunen finished 23rd in shot put with a 9.19m throw followed by Kristen Blair in 29th and Abigail Sholders, another athlete that achieved a personal record, in 33rd.

“It’s great to see how everyone’s starting to put things together as we are getting close to champs,” Khanna said. “I’m really excited to see the performances in the next few weeks.”

Susquehanna will compete in the SU Invitational, which will take place in Selinsgrove, Pa. at 9:30 a.m on Feb. 15.
