The women’s volleyball team went undefeated at the PSECU River Hawk Invitational this past weekend, defeating No. 20 Wesleyan University 3-0 at O.W. Houts Gymnasium in Selinsgrove, Pa.
The first game of the tournament for the River Hawks was against Wesleyan. Susquehanna easily defeated the nationally ranked school 3-0, thanks to 13 kills, three aces and 11 digs from freshman outside hitter Rosina Esposito.
Susquehanna junior right- side hitter Sydney Portale added 11 kills on a 0.611 attack percentage, while her team- mate junior libero Lizzie Herestofa tacked on 13 digs.
Susquehanna had a game high 39 kills on a 0.234 attack percentage with only 14 errors. Their competitor Wesleyan served up 31 kills on a 0.073 at- tack percentage with 22 errors.
Junior Harper Graves led Wesleyan in kills with eight and her fellow junior teammate Phia Bellizzi led the game in digs with 19.
With the second day of the tournament came a double header for the River Hawks. Susquehanna defeated their first opponent, Stevens Insti- tute of Technology, 3-1.
Portale led the game in kills with 18, while her teammates, Esposito and sophomore outside hitter Brooke LaCesa served up 16 kills apiece.
Herestofa led Susquehanna in digs with 18 and as senior setter Lindsey Pugh led the game with 51 assists.
The River Hawks recorded 65 kills on a 0.316 attack percentage with 17 errors. Stevens tallied 51 kills on a 0.243 at- tack percentage with 14 errors.
Stevens’ leader in kills was senior Shelby Stewart with 14. Sophomore Elizabeth Chu tacked on 18 digs for the Ducks with her teammate, sophomore Kathleen Riegner, dishing out 37 assists.
The River Hawks defeated Hunter College 3-0 to close out the last game of the tournament.
Portale led the team in kills for a second time during the tournament with 14. Pugh tacked on 31 assists for the River Hawks, a game high.
Susquehanna delivered 46 kills on a 0.268 attack percentage with 13 errors during the win over Hunter to close out the weekend.
“While we enjoy celebrating our past victories, we know that our focus must be on each and every next match,” Susquehanna head coach Kuuipo Tom said.
