Susquehanna women’s tennis team traveled to King’s College and secured a second place finish in the doubles match in the King’s College Invitational on Sept. 8 and 9.
Sophomores Haley White and Ashlynn Searer led the charge with an 8-4 win against Misericordia’s Hannah Bonk and Emma Slowicki in the quarterfinals.
Continuing into the semifinals of the match, White and Searer took down King’s Alexis Zalutko and Emily Fernandez 8-5. When matched up against Scranton’s Nastashia DeNunzio and Marissa Campo, the River Hawks fell 8-7.
Searer also took third in the conciliation match. She solidified a 6-1 win over Marywood’s Danielle Ogonowski in the quarters, sending Searer to the semifinals where she fell to Emily Fernandez.
Senior Amy Jennings also performed well for the River Hawks in the singles matches, obtaining a 10-2 win over Marywood’s Allison Bashore. Jennings later fell short to Arcadia’s Alex Volkov 6-0 and 6-2.
Other notable points from the game included junior Nicole Brintzenhoff in a 6-1, 6-1 win in singles along with an 8-2 victory from sophomore Anna Ream in doubles.
“To work together to gain that big of a leg up, especially being leaders on the team, is really something,” Ream said.
The pair would eventually fall to King’s Diana Rodriguez and Mikayla Reynolds in the semifinals.
“We struggled a bit this go around but there is a lot of season left and we are ready to go,” White said.
The River Hawks will have in their next match against at 4 p.m. on Sept. 14 against Lycoming.
