The women’s golf team took on Gettysburg College and Stevenson University at the McDaniel Fall invitational, placing last in a competitive event held on Sept. 7-8 at The Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown, Pa.

Sophomore Ella Moores led the way for Susquehanna, posting a round score of 97 that placed Moores in the top 25 among all competitors.

Placing first in the event was Stevenson, compiling a group score of 336 that was ten strokes better than Gettysburg who finished second.

Receiving the bronze in the invitational was Marymount. Muhlenberg and Franklin & Marshall rounded out the top five finishers on the day.

Leading the tournament overall was Stevenson’s Casey Oppenheimer, who shot a 77 with five over par. Oppenheimer led all golfers by four strokes by day’s end, followed by teammate Amanda Perez, who shot an 81.

The Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown played as a course of solid difficulty for the field. A course that sits on what was formally a horse farm, The Bridges has plenty of water hazards to watch out for. The course has been described as a place without any particularly brutal holes but demands consistency across all eighteen holes.

Playing well at The Bridges requires consistently good club selection, as the course demands precision both off the tee box and around the greens. Driving the fairway is a must at the course, as playing off-fairway limits approach ability.

Susquehanna will look to improve at noon on Sept. 21 at the Penn State Altoona invitational hosted by the Sinking Valley Golf Club. The fall slate ends with the Landmark Conference preview on Oct. 19 in Queenstown, Maryland.
