Senior attacker Jack Donnelly had a career day as the Susquehanna men’s lacrosse team dominated Drew in a 15–2 road win on Saturday, March 30.
Donnelly scored five goals on the day and also added an assist. Sophomore attacker Colton Dick and freshman attacker Jack McLaughlin also had hat tricks on the day.
“It was a great offensive output by our three attackmen. They are playing really well as a unit right now and I could not be happier with their performance,” head coach Stewart Moan said.
It did not take long for the River Hawks to score. The first goal of the game was at the 12-minute mark, scored by Donnelly on an assist from McLaughlin.
Shortly after, the second goal was scored by McLaughlin with an assist from Dick. Donnelly scored his second goal of the game unassisted with 9:30 on the clock.
With four seconds left in the first quarter, Dick scored to give the River Hawks a 4–0 lead.
In the second quarter, the River Hawks sustained their lead and only allowed the Rangers to score one goal. The River Hawks scored four more goals by Dick, Donnelly, McLaughlin and junior attacker Michael Hatala. Susquehanna ended the half with a score of 8–1.
The first half of the game ended with a total 21 shots on goal and nine won faceoffs.
Susquehanna kept up their pressure in the third quarter as the River Hawks scored three more goals and did not allow the Rangers to score. Goals were scored by Dick, Hatala and junior attacker Brian Hewett.
Going into the final quarter, the Rangers finally managed to score their second goal of the game. The River Hawks continued their momentum though and scored four more goals during the quarter. Donnelly, McLaughlin and senior midfielder Lou Pillari scored for Susquehanna in the quarter.
Senior goalie Dylan Abplanalp had eight saves and sophomore goalie Tyler Gross had four saves on the day. The River Hawks have a current record of 6-6 and are 1-1 in Landmark Conference play. Susquehanna will return to action against Moravian at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 6. It will also be Senior Day for the team.
