Susquehanna women’s lacrosse dropped their fourth game of the season with a 19-11 loss to conference-foe Elizabethtown on Saturday, March 24 on the road.
The Blue Jays peppered the River Hawks and sophomore goalkeeper Libby Dex with 44 total shots, more than double that of Susquehanna on the day, and converted on nearly half of them.
Elizabethtown had three players on the day with five goals, and Katie Thompson led the team with 10 assists on the day.
Susquehanna found themselves down early after Elizabethtown jumped out to a 5-0 lead less than six minutes into the contest. Junior attacker Kathrino DeMaio finally ended the run and got the River Hawks on the board with a free-position goal with 23:42 remaining in the first half.
Sophomore attack Gabi Toohey would score two more goals for the River Hawks, but Susquehanna would struggle for the rest of the half and would go into halftime down 14-5.
Junior attacker Brooke Klair opened up the scoring in the second half for both teams, but Elizabethtown would add three more goals in 11 minutes to extend their commanding lead to 17-6.
DeMaio would score again to end the run on an assist to 17-7 to score her goal number 13 on the season as Susquehanna would begin an attempt at a desperate comeback.
Senior attacker Caroline Rabiecki would add another goal three minutes later to narrow the lead to 17-8.
Klair would then find Sophomore attacker Christine Hoerman to add another goal with 7:49 left in the half.
Elizabethtown would stop the short run by the River Hawks just a 1:35 later though as Kate Ziegler.
Sophomore attacker Stephanie Dowling added another goal for Susquehanna less than two minutes later to push Susquehanna into double digits.
Both teams would then trade goals in the final 3:14 of the game and would end with Elizabethtown on top.
Susquehanna bounced back though just a few days later with an 18-11 win against rival Lycoming on Tuesday, March 27.
DeMaio scored five goals and added three assists on the day for the River Hawks.
Dex also added eight saves on the day and sophomore midfielder Mel Barracato led the game in ground balls with four and added an assist.
