This Saturday Susquehanna University kicks off a Second Stage season you won’t want to miss!

Happening on Saturday, Oct. 24, the annual 24-Hour Play Festival event launches Susquehanna University’s Second Stage season.

The play festival gathers actors, writers, directors, and technical support together from across all disciplines to put on a night of one-act performances that are written, directed, acted and technically developed all in the span of 24-hours.

Second Stage Production Manager Natalie Dreyer described the event as “a great chance for theatre lovers to get together and have fun!”

The rehearsals will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, with the performance taking place at 7:30 p.m. that day in Issacs Auditorium, but for those interested in participating, an interest meeting will be held on Oct. r 23, from 6-7 p.m. in Issacs Auditorium.

The interest meeting will discuss guidelines, conduct auditions, and begin the clock on writing scripts, and is encouraged for anyone who wishes to get involved!

The festival offers students a unique opportunity to experience the collaborative nature of theater while working under a tight deadline.

From developing original scripts to bringing characters to life on stage, participants work together to transform initial ideas into completed performances. The limited time frame encourages creativity, teamwork and experimentation, allowing students to explore different aspects of theatrical production.

The event is also an opportunity for students with varying levels of theater experience to be involved. Whether interested in writing, performing, directing or working behind the scenes, participants can contribute to the production process and gain hands-on experience in a collaborative environment.

The Theatre Department’s Second Stage programing allowsinterdisciplinary engagement for those who love theatre but do not major in the department.

By welcoming students from different academic backgrounds, Second Stage creates a space for creative expression beyond the traditional department focus.

This festival allows those who participate to explore new interests, develop skills, and collaborate with peers they may not otherwise work with, all while giving audiences a chance to experience original student performances.
