When given an assortment of props, their entire wardrobes at their disposal, and twelve eager models, the Luxury Brand Marketing Club succeeded in bringing not only an admirable but innovative idea to life.
Sophomore Audrey Miller President of LBMC, transitioned into the role effortlessly, considering this was her first time leading the Lookbook. Despite the huge responsibility, she was one of the leading visionaries behind the project, among Lily Papendick (Content Creator), and Jordan Sanabria (Graphic Designer/Creative Director). After consistent meetings, the three of them would spend hours in a united stream of consciousness, one that Audrey proclaims distinguished them as her “creative soulmates.”
Audrey also mentions that their sum of models grew since last year. This year’s Lookbook features twelve models, up from last year’s ten. I had the pleasure of speaking with Piper Wright, one of the students who modeled for the Lookbook this year. She chose Canada as her destination, which really meant a lot to her because it allowed her to “show appreciation” for her roots through fashion. Everyone was responsible for dressing themselves, so all the looks came from the depths of their closets, a personal touch that could be felt on each page. Piper was also able to witness what went on behind the scenes for the first time and commends “all the hard work and effort that gets put into something so cool.” This input only goes to show the sheer enthusiasm and limitless possibilities behind this year’s Lookbook, where an extra pair of helping hands was never discouraged.
Lily shared that she loved having “creative freedom,” a perk the fall Lookbook granted her. This year’s theme was “Go Global,” which Lily says she already “had a baseline set of questions” prepared to ask the models. However, during the process, she admits feeling liberated enough to expand upon this list of premade questions. In the end, the result proved to be a variety of answers, all of which allowed Lily a step inside the models’ minds. Her opportunity to converse with so many different perspectives allowed their global Lookbook vision to become not only a tactile concept, but a sisterhood as well. This Lookbook transports viewers to a variety of destinations, all from the comfort of turning a page and the pairing of a few clothing items. When I asked Lily why she loves the Fall Lookbook and LBMC, she said it was because it introduced her “to so many wonderful people” and gifted her the value of “hands-on-experience.” However, the shorter, simpler answer was because she “genuinely finds it fun.”
It is also important to praise their photographer, Sadie Jarolin, who was able to bring all these looks to life. What started off as an idea behind closed doors and group chats has become something tangible for SU faculty and students to soon hold. While in the process of shooting, Audrey also applauds the Theatre Department, who willingly collaborated with LBMC by letting them use their props, which can be seen featured throughout the Lookbook.
Both Lily and Audrey wish to work in the magazine industry one day, and not only does LBMC provide them with an outlet to spew their creative ideas but also to encourage their professional aspirations. They both have Isabella Fallon to thank for this, who founded the club years ago.
I highly recommend indulging in these Lookbooks to support the minds of creative SU students. These Lookbooks will be available to purchase through a presale link or in person at tabling in Lower Deg. However, more information will follow soon, along with updates on other events, which can all be checked out on the LBMC Instagram: @sulbmc
