The Susquehanna Volleyball team took the last three sets in a match against Wilkes to defeat the Colonels 3-1 in Friday night’s game at O.W. Houts Gymnasium.
Freshman Camille Ince led the River Hawks (5-13 Overall, 2-2 Conference) with 21 kills, beating her previous season high of 16 that she set in Wednesday night’s game.
Lauren Halsey led the team in assists with 27, followed by teammate first-year Emma Nkanza with 17.
“I’m just working a lot with my setters,” Ince said. “Making sure we’re getting that better connection, knowing like how I like to be set and knowing how they like to set it.”
The River Hawks were electric in the third and fourth sets, beating the Colonels (13-10 Overall, 2-3 Landmark) 25-20 and 25-17.
Ince had six kills in the third and seven in the fourth. Halsey set Ince for three of her six kills and five of her seven. Halsey was also consistent all night, earning eight assists in the first set, seven in the third and eight in the final.
“I think we have a great dynamic,” Ince said about working with Halsey and Nkanza. “I love both my setters.”
After Susquehanna dropped the first set to the Colonels and trailed Wilkes 7-4 early in the second set, the River Hawks went on a five-point run to pull ahead 9-7.
“We’ve just been like in the gym every day getting more reps, getting better,” Ince said.
Another five-point run in the third lifted the River Hawks over the Colonels 19-18. Tied at 20, the River Hawks went on one final run to finish out the set 25-20.
The River Hawks, now carrying all the momentum, pulled off an early 13-3 start to hold the lead for the rest of the set.
Senior Callie Wince led the team in aces, earning two in the fourth set and three for the night. She also led the team with 20 digs.
“Definitely just like continuing the same energy, using the energy from the past two games, the engagement, to continue us and carry us into our upcoming games tomorrow and next week,” Ince said about the game’s impact.
The River Hawks, now 2-2 in conference, return to their home court Saturday, Oct 17 at 5 p.m. to celebrate senior day and take on Moravian for another Landmark Conference matchup.
