Susquehanna Field Hockey dropped to Wilkes in a 2-0 finish Tuesday night at Sassafras Field.

The first score for Wilkes (7-5 Overall, 3-0 Landmark) came 11 minutes into the first quarter. The River Hawks (3-10 Overall, 1-2 Landmark) showed pressure to the Colonel’s defense throughout the game, but none of them could find the back of the net.

Susquehanna earned seven penalty corners, with six of them being in the second half. In the third quarter the River Hawks put up three shots, and three more in the fourth. But Wilkes was able to keep the ball out of the goal.

Head Coach Allison Fordyce said, “I liked how aggressive the offense was tonight. We had a few good shots put up. There’s a lot of good things to take away from this game.”

Senior goalkeeper Taytum Lombardi also had a solid performance in the net. Lombardi made several saves to keep the River Hawks in the game, one of them being on a penalty stroke in the fourth quarter. Altogether she had five saves on the night while Wilkes recorded two.

“The defense felt really strong tonight. We were able to keep them out of our territory for a while,” said Lombardi.

But with just three minutes to go, Wilkes scoed another goal to stretch their advantage to 2-0 over the River Hawks.

Susquehanna put up seven shots throughout the game, with two of them being on goal. Wilkes had eight shots, with seven of them being on goal.

First year midfielders Isabel Goncalves and Bailey Neff both put up a shot on goal during the game. Senior forward Ella DeFazio led Susquehanna with three total shots on the night.

“We had a lot of chances and good looks tonight, but we just weren’t able to find the net,” Neff said.

The River Hawks will be back in action on the road against Drew on Saturday, Oct 10 at 1 p.m.
