Susquehanna fell 3-0 to Dickinson in what was only their second loss of the season at Sassafras Fields Wednesday night.
Pre match, the River Hawks (7-3-1) honored Morgan Rodgers, a former Duke lacrosse student who tragically passed in 2019 whilst battling mental health struggles.
Her family, friends and teammates created Morgan’s Message that emphasized eliminating the stigma against mental health. Susquehanna warmed up in shirts representing Morgan’s Message and held a moment of silence to honor the message.
Out of the gate, Susquehanna failed to match the intensity of the Red Devils (7-1-3), who looked to control the tempo in a scrappy affair.
Dickinson looked more confident and it showed as sophomore Joelle Ma would hit a shot that Susquehanna goalie Katie Henchy would get a finger to, grazing the bar.
The breakthrough would come just after the ten minute mark, as a rare mistake from Henchy gifted the ball to the Red Devils, which eventually found the feet of senior forward Ava Prisco who tucked the ball in the near post.
The next three minutes would spell trouble from the River Hawks, finding their three at the back system leaving themselves stretched out wide.
Dickinson would find extreme space out wide, swing a dangerous ball across the face of goal which got turned in by Susquehanna for an own goal. Susquehanna would go into the half with their heads down, and down by two goals.
The second half started with a little more fire under the River Hawks’ belly. They looked to push more players forward and get their attackers involved.
Their efforts would be in vain as a corner would find first-year midfielder Megan Lomotan put a third past Henchy to make it three goals in 66 minutes.
As the time ticked down, Susquehanna never looked like scoring and Dickinson’s composed defensive performance posed a difficult feat for the defense to tear down.
As for the box score, Dickinson outshot Susquehanna 14 to eight, with Henchy making six saves. Dickinson’s win tonight was their 13th win over Susquehanna over the years and make it two wins in a row (2025, 2026) against the River Hawks.
Susquehanna look to bounce back against Elizabethtown, a conference opponent this Saturday, October 3 at 4:00 p.m. as they take them on at Sassafras Fields.
