River Hucks Look To Continue Their Success

Posted on October 5, 2026 by The Quill

Most people look at a frisbee and think about just throwing it back and forth with a friend on a nice day. But to the Susquehanna River Hucks, a frisbee means a whole lot more.

The River Hucks are the club Ultimate Frisbee team at Susquehanna University, and they always strive for success.

Last season, the River Hucks finished with a 30-11 overall record. They also ended up winning the last four tournament championships of the season and took home first place in the big Spring Break High Tide Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

“That was not our team’s career first time winning the [High Tide] tournament, but it was my first time winning, and it was a really great competition,” said Women’s captain Ryann Holladay.

With the 2026 Spring season ending on a high note, the team had big expectations for the Fall season. But things didn’t start off the way they had hoped as they dropped their opening scrimmage at home against Bucknell 11-4.

The cold and rainy conditions made playing tough for both teams, but in the end the River Hucks were simply outplayed.

But to the River Hucks that loss didn’t mean anything to them as it was only the first game of the season with plenty more to play.

Starting with the first tournament of the season at Gettysburg College, which is always a favorite for many players. At Gettysburg, the River Hucks will have redemption as the first game they play will be a rematch against Bucknell.

Junior men’s captain Dominic Donati prepared the team for the tournament all week, always looking to get better every day. He said previous captains and role models were a big part of why he is where he is right now.

“One of my biggest advantages I’ve had in my time here is being able to be close to and learn from previous men’s captains and women’s captains as well,” Donati said.

Something that the River Hucks always try to make important is good chemistry and relationships between everyone on the team.

“A bunch of our returning players have great chemistry,” said Senior Sutton Coffman. A big part of these relationships is with team dinners where everybody talks together, or a team get-together on the weekends.

They always try to make bonding and chemistry a key point for the team. Dominic and Ryann, who live together this year, like to host board game nights or just random hangouts with everybody.

Returning players of the River Hucks always make the team a welcoming environment for any new players, whether they are brand new to the game or have experience. That is why numbers for the team is never an issue.

Despite many players graduating in the spring, they are always able to find new people willing to play and keep the team alive and strong. The River Hucks is looking good to start off this Fall season and are looking to make an impact this year.
