Here at Susquehanna University, we support and are proud to say that all of our students study abroad, whether it is for a semester or a few weeks, it is important that students step outside of their comfort zones and travel to a place that is foreign to them, a place that is new and innovative and exciting.
How do you even begin to embark on a journey like this? Well, I am glad you asked. The Go-Office is the main point of contact when students are interested in studying abroad for a semester.
There are many resources students can receive at the GO-office, located in Hass, to have meetings with advisors regarding the trip, know where and how students can get their passport photo taken, how they can get their visa, etc. It is great resource for students to use if they are nervous or have any specific questions before studying abroad. The GO-office is that support system that students can go to in order to receive the specific help they need.
The GO-office also helps you get in contact with the program or university that you decide to use when you are abroad. A perfect example of this was when I studied abroad last semester, in Florence, Italy. The GO-office was my link between classes at Susquehanna and my program abroad. It is the mediator and peacekeeper that helps you move along the study abroad process. For students studying abroad in the fall, deadlines are fast approaching regarding scheduling, attending SU abroad preparation classes, financial aid deadlines, so students must keep a close watch on their MYSU page and keep track of deadlines!
From personally studying abroad last semester, I think it is important to be organized, keep in touch with the GO-office, and give yourself some space and lead way to complete any assignments that you need to. Studying abroad is a wonderful experience, but do not add the extra stress by waiting last minute to complete papers, hand in paperwork to the GO-office, or be unproductive. Get your work done and you will have a better and easier relationship with the GO-office this way.
