Four different River Hawks tallied goals as the field hockey team dominated Allegheny 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Sassafras Fields Complex.

First-year River Hawk Taylor Rothermel scored her first career goal to give Susquehanna (2-0) an early lead. Less than two minutes later, Rebecca Ripans scored her first goal of the season to give the River Hawks a 2-0 lead. The second quarter saw no scoring action as the Allegheny defense stood strong, even with the ball being on their side for the majority of the time.

Six minutes into the second half, Lexi Fumanti gave the River Hawks a 3-0 lead with a nifty goal assisted by Ripans. Katie Bucher then added a goal in the final minutes with a laser off a corner pass from Gracie Roush.

Susquehanna’s defense had a very uneventful day as goalkeeper Ashley Derrick did not even have to save a shot. On the other side, Allegheny goalkeeper Meredythe Baird had twelve saves. Overall, it is very fair to say that Susquehanna University used the pressure of their offense to shut out Allegheny and pick up their first home win during the young season.
