Saturday April 22, Susquehanna University Dance Corps held their annual Dance Showcase in Weber Chapel Auditorium at 2 p.m.
The theme for this year’s showcase was Dancing in the Rain. It included a wide variety of dances including tap, ballet, hip-hop, jazz, contemporary and more.
The show consisted of 31 dances and 58 student dancers performed as a part of the showcase. Dancers performed multiple solo numbers as well as duets and small group numbers from student-taught dance classes. All the dances were choreographed by student choreographers.
Advanced jazz choreographer Corinne Leighty said, “It was amazing to see my choreography come to life with students from Susquehanna and I’m so proud of all the dancers that performed on Saturday.”
The SU Dance Team was also part of the Showcase, performing three dances choreographed by Dance Team Captain Julie Heaney. They are known to perform at Basketball games throughout the season as well as at events around campus such as the SU B-Positive event earlier in the year.
In addition to the dances, there were also raffle baskets, concessions and t-shirts for sale at the Showcase.
SUDC classes range from beginner to advanced and anyone with any amount of experience is invited to sign up for classes. As of this year there are 15 different classes available, but the SUDC are excited to announce that next year they will be adding a 16th class which will be an Irish Step Dance class.
Leighty said: “I would love to see more diversity in Dance Corp and the opportunity to bring a new group of students to participate. I hope that this class allows us to explore different styles of dance in the future at SUDC.”
To support SUDC, you can get their sponsored drink at Charlie’s Coffeehouse until April 28. And to keep up with SUDC follow them on Instagram.
