When walking around the library, one may notice all the eye-catching artwork that has been placed all over the main floor. These pieces are from the creative mind of Chet Davis, a local artist based in central Pennsylvania. His pieces have been displayed all around the world, in places like England and Italy, and all over the state, in multiple museums and other universities.
Christina Jansen is the woman behind getting all the art displayed in the library. She focuses on showcasing local artists from Selinsgrove and the surrounding areas. The exhibit featuring Chet’s work has been up since the third week of August and will be on display until Oct. 15.
The art committee has been a part of Susquehanna University since 2017 and has been showcasing art every year. Some art has been from local artists in surrounding areas, and some pieces are from students that the committee has commissioned to showcase the talent from the student body.
Because most of the art displayed in the library is by students taking art and photography classes, the first seven weeks of the fall semester are filled by the local artists that Jansen picks so that there’s something on display for incoming students. During the second half of the fall semester, photography pieces done by students are presented.
In the spring, the Foundations of Art Class and Printmaking students get to exhibit their works. The type of art displayed varies based on what the class is working at the time; sometimes it’s collage art, paintings, or other kinds of art in that field.
