Printing has always been a technology that could improve in every facility. I personally came from a high school that had one of the worst printing systems that I ever dealt with, so I always groan when we are told by professors to hand in papers for our assignments. Obviously with the pandemic, most of us have not printed out materials for almost a year now. When we returned to campus, there was a new system for us to use to print assignments.
I do not have a lot of experience with the old system that our campus used for the past three semesters I have attended Susquehanna. When I have used it, I remember making sure I was always in my dorm building before I thought about printing. I lived in Seibert, and the printer I would use is the one located in the Information Technology office. A few times I had to run up and down the floors since I forgot to send all my materials to the printer. I personally liked the log-in process the old system involved, especially because if I would decide to print when others were also trying to do so, we would not print out the wrong material.
Researching the new system Papercut, we have to log in to the system to be able to print. We will use our student credentials to log in and access the system after swiping our ID cards just as the old system had worked. The system also provides an email with a link that allows students to see that all print jobs have successfully made it to their designated printer. That means no more running up and down the Seibert floors to print and reprint!
Hopefully, the new printing system is a bit easier for us to navigate through printers all throughout campus. This is such a little thing to be excited about, but I am excited to try out this new system when all of us can return to the campus in the future. For those who are able to use the new systems this semester, I hope there are no problems throughout the system change.
