The Susquehanna field hockey team suffered an unfortunate 2-1 loss in double overtime against Misericordia on Oct. 2 in Dallas, Pa.

The River Hawks took the lead early in the game when sophomore midfielder Samantha Banks scored her third goal of the season, which was unassisted, in the second quarter. Susquehanna maintained the 1-0 lead until halftime.

The Cougars were able to tie the score after sophomore midfielder Brynn Lansenderfer scored on a penalty stroke late in the third quarter. This goal forced the game into the first overtime period because no goals were scored by either team in the fourth quarter, leaving score tied at 1-1.

The first period of overtime was scoreless, but sophomore midfielder Mikayla Canvenas was able to find the back of net for the Cougars in the second period of overtime with only four minutes remaining to win the game 2-1.

The River Hawks only forced three penalty corners but gave up seven to the Cougars. Misericordia led in the ratio of shots with 8-5 and shots on goal with 6-2.

β€œWe came out really strong and dominated the first half, but the stroke in the second half sent us into overtime,” sophomore midfielder Kelsey Murray said. β€œWe played hard and fast, but in the end we could not get the ball in the cage and got scored on in overtime.”

Susquehanna will return to action on Oct. 12 for a pivotal Landmark Conference matchup against the Catholic Cardinals at 1 p.m. on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove, Pa.
