Susquehanna’s women’s tennis team defeated the College of Saint Elizabeth on March 24, sweeping the Jays 9–0 at the Susquehanna University Garrett Tennis Courts.
Looking to continue a triumphant season, Susquehanna successfully recorded their second shutout. Freshman Ashlynn Shearer defeated her opponent in No. 1 singles 6–1, 6–0 and is now 10-1 for the season.
Senior Eliza Griffin impressed in No. 2 singles, shutting out her opponent 6–0, 6–0 while junior Amy Jennings defeated her opponent 6–1, 6–2 in No. 3 singles to advance the River Hawk’s lead.
In the fourth singles spot, freshman Anna Ream continued Susquehanna’s reign with a 6–1, 6–2 win. Junior Isabella Ferrari was victorious in the fifth singles slot, winning in straight sets 7–5, 6–1.
The River Hawks took control, losing only two games in the top three slots for doubles. Sophomores Christina Rudderow and Hannah Maykut remained undefeated for the season, winning 8–2 in No. 1 doubles.
Seniors Abigail Ransom and Cassey Fox won their first doubles match of the season, shutting out their opponent 8–0 in No. 2 doubles.
Sophomore Kallie Honstine and freshman Virginia Macomber recorded an 8–0 shutout in the third position.
With the sweep over Saint Elizabeth, Susquehanna moves to 5-3 overall on the season, while the Eagles fall to 0-1.
The River Hawks will compete at 1 p.m. on March 30 and 31 against Landmark Conference rivals Elizabethtown and Moravian in Selinsgrove.
