Susquehanna women’s lacrosse started out with an early lead but fell short in an 8-7 loss in overtime against Marymount on March 12.

Susquehanna started out strong with a two-point lead but Marymount would go on a 6-3 run. The River Hawks were able to bring the game back to a tie before the Saints would pull away.

Sophomore attacker Gabi Toohey led the team with two goals and an assist.

Sophomore goalie Libby Dex beat her career high in saves at 16 total and had one more save than the opposing goalie to lead the game in saves.

Starting out the game, sophomore attacker Christine Hoerman scored unassisted for the River Hawks.

Toohey followed with another goal assisted by junior attacker Brooke Klair to bring the Susquehanna to their 2-0 early lead less than three minutes into the game.

Ten minutes into the game, Marymount began a comeback with an unassisted goal and two more goals nine minutes later to give them to a 3-2 lead against
the River Hawks.

With five minutes left of play in the first half, senior attacker Caroline Rabiecki tied the game at 3-3 with a free-position shot.

Marymount started off the second half with three goals in the first seven minutes to push the score to 6-2.

Rabiecki scored another free-position shot with 18 minutes remaining to lower
the deficit to three goals.

With less than 11 minutes left, Toohey and Hoerman scored another two goals less than two minutes apart to tie the game at 6-6.

Susquehanna took the lead again with 6 minutes left with a goal by junior attacker Kathrina DeMaio, which was assisted by Toohey.

Dex received a yellow card foul and Marymount took advantage to score another shot with less than three minutes left to tie the game again.

The Saints’ defense was able to hold their place and keep Susquehanna from breaking the tie in the last few minutes as the game continues into overtime.

To begin overtime, Marymount won the opening draw and then was able to get another free position shot over the goalkeeper to win the game 8-7.

Susquehanna was 3-11 and Marymount was 2-10 in free position shots.

Marymount had a total of 20 ground balls and Susquehanna ended up with 12.

Susquehanna now has a 1-3 record and return to action on Saturday, March 24 against conference-foe Elizabethtown.

The Blue Jays currently hold a 4-3 record and have yet to open up conference play. The team is coming off an 18-6 loss.
