What would you do if you were turned into an elderly person by a witch and then met a wizard who refused to be drafted?
“Howl’s Moving Castle” is a 2004 Japanese animated fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, based on Diana Wynne Jones’ 1986 novel.
The film is set in a fictional kingdom where both magic and early 20th-century technology are prevalent, against the backdrop of a war with another kingdom. It tells the story of Sophie, a young milliner (someone who designs, manufactures, and sells hats and other headwear).
Sophie is turned into an elderly woman by a witch who enters her shop and curses her, and she encounters a wizard named Howl, getting caught up in his refusal to fight for the king. Click here for more information about “Howl’s Moving Castle.”

The movie was shown on Feb. 25 with free admission, and Oreo cake balls, cupcakes, strawberry cookies and lemonade were available for sale.

Caitlin Strong said, “Studio Ghibli movies are always a joy to watch. This was the first time I watched the English version, so it was fun to see English voice actors with the, as always, beautiful animations.”
There were about 20 or more in attendance, and the bake sale raised money for future expenses such as travel, lodging and more for Zenkaikon.
Zenkaikon is an annual convention in Lancaster, PA that celebrates anime, manga, games and more, which the Anime and Manga Association, Sub-Pop Cultural Association and TTRPG Club attend every spring semester.
The clubs were incredibly grateful for everyone’s support! Join Film Club meetings at 6:30 pm on Wednesdays, and Anime Club meetings at 7:00 pm on Fridays.
