SU E-Sports hosted a Minecraft Build Battle competition that was open to the public. The competition occurred on Feb. 20, 2026, from 5-7 p.m. in Charlie’s Lounge, and participants were walk-ins with no prior registration.

SU E-Sports hosted a bake sale in Lower Deg on Thursday, Feb. 12, selling Minecraft-themed treats like creeper crisps and dirt block brownies to fund this event. The players were each given one minute to choose building blocks to use, and they got three minutes to build whatever structure that Sebastian Caraballo, the president of the SU E-Sports club, gave them.

There were eleven rounds of build battles, and the structures the students were asked to build were a cow, a cat, headphones, a desk, an apple, a soda, a pizza, Freddy Fazbear from “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” a treehouse, a car and a flower.

Recurring players were Jason Petersen, Dylan Arruda, Crystal Davis, Milana Schmid, Leo Klinger and Malichite Merenda.

During the first round, the players got creative with three versions of a cow: Petersen built a cow, Arruda built an upside-down cow, and Davis spawned numerous cows.

Petersen was the winner, and Arruda said, “You know it’s a cow because the sign obviously said cow.”

Petersen won at least three of the eleven competitions, including the cow, the headphones and the desk builds.

Arruda used Minecraft’s TNT blocks in almost every round he played in, which was at least seven of the eleven competitions, and he exploded the creations after the battles were over.

Other winners of the build battles included Tommy Wright (cat build), Malichite Merenda (apple build with apple slices – see picture above), and more.

During the seventh round, the players were asked to build a pizza. Schmid made a normal pizza; Petersen made a “deep crust” pizza; and Arruda made a pizza slice after exploding the original unfinished build with TNT.

Schmid was the winner of that round as well as the previous round for building a glass of Coca-Cola, while Petersen and Arruda both made Sprite.

Merenda said that during the seventh round’s one-minute inventory choosing, “I was at Barnes and Noble the other day, and they had a bible for Minecraft.”

Congratulations to all of the winners who now have bragging rights for winning a Minecraft Build Battle on a PlayStation 5.
