Sophomores celebrated their halfway point to graduation with Sophomore Soar Week from Jan. 19 to Jan. 23, 2026.

Sophomores needed to get six or more stamps and return the given passport tickets to Burke Hawk Hub before 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 23.

If done so, they were entered to win priority housing selection during the 2026-27 lottery, or, for commuter students, a reserved parking spot for the remainder of the spring and fall 2026 semesters.

The winners of Sophomore Soar Week were Lorelai Klinger, who won priority housing selection, Sheyla Ramos Sanchez, who won the O&M Dining raffle, and Xavier Terry, who won the basketball game’s halftime raffle.

  • On Monday, the MLK Convocation was held in Stretansky Concert Hall to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Several readings, performances and musicals were performed by various identities across campus. The most notable ones were Milton Hershey School’s choir and the multilingual reading of Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

See here for the full recap of the MLK Convocation.

Tuesday brought Taco Tuesday, tabling with free items, the job fair and trivia night.

Tacos were served for lunch in Degenstein, and the job fair in the Benjamin Apple Meeting Rooms included on-campus jobs, off-campus jobs and on-campus summer jobs.

Organizations tabled in Mellon Lounge, including the Career Development Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Global Opportunities, First Gen and more.

Trivia Night was held downstairs in Charlie’s Lounge with multiple Kahoot trivia games, a notable one being pop culture trivia.

Wednesday brought the Student Activities Fair and the Men’s Basketball Game located in the Houts Gymnasium.

Attending the activities fair at Weber Chapel meant Sophomores would receive their Sophomore Shirts, Starbucks Vouchers for Sophomore Social on Thursday, and their basketball game raffle tickets.

See here for the game’s outcome.

Thursday brought the long-awaited Sophomore Social at Starbucks.

Dozens of students went to Starbucks to get free drinks with their vouchers after an event-filled week, spent time with their friends and unwinded.

Overall, Sophomore Soar Week events had a big turnout.

Have a great semester, River Hawks!
