At Susquehanna, students have a good number of food options on campus, but sometimes you want something healthier, or maybe you don’t want to make the long walk to Degenstein.
Every dorm has a kitchen, but many students don’t know what to make or how to make it. Hopefully, after reading this, you will have some new ideas about what you can make for yourself in your dorm hall.
Let’s start with the most important meal of the day, breakfast.
A quick breakfast you can make in a rush or on the go is breakfast yogurt. You can get 32 ounces of yogurt for $2.19 for five servings at Weis, as well as mixed frozen fruit for around $4.69 for 21 ounces. If you want to add granola it would be an additional $4.99.
So, in total, you can spend $11.87 for five to eight meals depending on how you ration them. The only thing that you might run out of is yogurt.
The next breakfast option could be a simple pancake. If you want to be extra healthy, you can use protein pancake mix for an additional $3.99, but if you want the basic pancake mix, it would be $2.79 per 32 ounces. You could also use the frozen fruit you bought for the yogurt to add some extra flavor to the pancakes.
For lunch, I wanted to do something that you could prep in advance. Since lunch is the busiest time of the day, you may not have time to make something.
That’s why the best option would be some burritos or quesadillas because you can prep them before putting them in the fridge to be reheated later.
A 12 pack of tortillas at Weis sells for $2.49, and if you wanted ground beef for your choice of meat, you could get it for $6.49 per pound. But if you want chicken, you can get frozen chicken strips for $9.99.
You can add whatever toppings you would like such as iceberg lettuce for $1.99, cheese for $3.99 and any type of sauce you would want.
For dinner, there are two options: one more time-consuming recipe as well as one very simple option.
The more time-consuming, but still simple, recipe would be chicken parmesan. You could also use the chicken you got for the burritos or quesadillas, helping you save money and having a variety of meal options.
A simpler dinner would be the ever-reliable pasta. You can get a box of pasta for $1.79 at Weis, and a 24-ounce jar of pasta sauce for $1.99. It is one of the cheapest and easiest dinner meals of all time.
Overall, this list is easy, affordable and offers a variety of meal options when campus food isn’t your first choice.
