Coloring campus in “Hues of Hope,” the Paul Dannelley chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) introduces a new color-themed campaign dedicated to promoting organ donation. Running from March 17-21, the campaign highlights the life-saving impact of organ donation, which benefits over 46,000 Americans each year, and invites students to participate in featured events, including stories from two transplant recipients.
Susquehanna junior Cade Hovey will share his firsthand experience with organ donation at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20 in Charlie’s Coffeehouse (Lower Deg). After his discussion, students can take part in a craft night featuring a collaborative mural, bracelet-making, crocheting and clay creations. Complimentary wings and pizza will be provided.
On Friday, March 21, at 7 p.m., Ken Durbin—double-lung transplant recipient and father to a Susquehanna student—will share his story in Charlie’s Coffeehouse. In collaboration with P.S. I Love You, students can enjoy a screening of Disney’s “Inside Out” with popcorn, pink lemonade and glowsticks after Ken Durbin’s speech.
Students are encouraged to take part in color-themed activities throughout the week to learn more about the impact of being a registered organ donor. The “Hues of Hope” campaign kicks off with Wear Green Day on Monday, March 17, featuring PRSSA members tabling in Upper Deg from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students can spin the color wheel for the chance to win heart-shaped lollipops, bags of Skittles, bracelets, stickers and coloring sheets featuring Presley, Susquehanna PRSSA’s new mascot!
On Tuesday, March 18, students can wear blue and decorate cookies in Evert Dining Room between 5-7 p.m. PRSSA will return to Upper Deg on Thursday, March 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for another tabling event, encouraging students to wear orange. The campaign wraps up on Friday, March 21, with a “Chalk the Walk” event on Kurtz Lane from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., spreading messages of hope and promoting positivity across campus.
Students who scan PRSSA’s QR code throughout the week will be entered into a free raffle, with prizes including two tickets to see The Lumineers in Pittsburgh this summer. Winners will be announced at Ken Durbin’s speech on Friday.
