Chris Ciccarello and Kieran Thomas each scored four goals in a 18-4 win against King’s College on Saturday at Sassafras Field in non-conference action.
The River Hawks (4-0) started off hot in the first period, scoring three times. First was Ciccarello, scoring in the first 30 seconds of play. The lead would continue to grow with a goal from Thomas, which would only be the start of a historic day for the SU midfielder. Thomas struck again later in the period on an unassisted goal to make the score 5-0.
Following this was King’s (0-2) first goals of the game, coming from Brenden Lynch and John Lynch. Susquehanna would then tack on four more goals to close out the half, including two goals from Ciccarello and one each from both Thomas and sophomore midfielder Reese Ackerman.
The third period would be much of the same as the first two, with Kieran Thomas scoring his 100th career point on an unassisted goal two minutes in. Following this was two more goals for SU by Connor Aitken and Jack Gaillard to make the score 12-2 at the end of the third.
The landslide continued for the River Hawks in the fourth period, with two goals from Kieran Koenke and strikes from Jack White and Tyler Young in an eight-minute stretch. King’s would manage to tack on another goal with five minutes remaining, but two more goals from SU’s Garrett Howell and Charlie Haines closed out a dominating win for the River Hawks.
Ciccarello finished with seven points, including four goals on five shots and three assists. Thomas’ historic day also ended with four goals. Gaillard also recorded a team-high five assists. “We try to focus on one game at a time, no matter who the opponent is,” SU head coach Stewart Moan said after the game. “We got control of the game, and it was a great start for us in the first half.”
Brennan Lorence, Gaillard and Ciccarello have had amazing starts to their senior campaign, which Coach Moan took notice of: “All are different players and very good at what they do… that can be a matchup for any team that we play.”
After a trip to Immaculata on Wednesday, SU will return home to host Haverford at 1 p.m. Saturday.
