O.W. Houts Gymnasium hosted an eventful Landmark conference game on Wednesday between Catholic and Susquehanna that ended 70-65 in favor of the Cardinals.

The match between two of the premiere teams in the Landmark was close all around, with the score heading into the break held at 32-29. Catholic’s season-leading scorer Sean Neylon totaled 14 points, while SU’s Billy Anderson put in work of his own with 12.

It was in the second half however that held more of the excitement and scoring for this game. Entering the final minute, center Audric Washington swished two free throws, putting the score at 66-62 in favor of the Cardinals. The River Hawks then got a clutch steal, leading to SU forward Cooper Haberern drawing a foul on a 3-point attempt.

After sinking all free throws and making the score 66-65, Catholic forward C.J. Ruoff was sent to the line after an SU foul. Another pair of free throws put Catholic ahead 68-65.

A missed 3-pointer by Haberern led to more free throws for Ruoff, which helped put away the River Hawks.

“Catholic’s a very strong opponent… and we found a way to fight back. I’m happy with the effort but not with the result,” SU coach Frank Marcinek stated. In response to how does the team bounce back from a crushing loss, Coach Marcinek said “I think it’s important that we don’t let one loss affect our next performance… we got to get our minds and bodies fresh in order to get two wins on the road.”

The first of those two road games will be on Saturday at Elizabethtown. The team will look to get back in the win column against another Landmark Conference opponent.
