The volleyball team battled hard but ultimately came up short on Tuesday against Catholic in the quarterfinals of the Landmark Conference playoffs.

After dropping the first two sets, the River Hawks (19-13 overall, 6-3 Landmark) fought back to win the third set before the Cardinals (15-20, 5-4) delivered the final blow by winning the fourth set.

Each set was decided by five points or less. The Cardinals won by a final score of 3-1.

Ryan Rorls led the River Hawks with 14 blocks while Emily Kowalski was just behind with 12. Amanda Gore led the team in both blocks and aces with 5 each.

Under interim head coach Stephanie Johnson, the River Hawks had quite the turnaround after a 2023 campaign where the team won just ten times.

Including Tuesday’s loss, the River Hawks complied an impressive 11-2 record at home on the season. Only the Cardinals and Scranton were able to walk into O.W. Houts Gymnasium and escape unscathed.
