Lore Degenstein Gallery’s 15th annual Figurative Art Exhibition is now open to the Susquehanna community.
On Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m., Lore Degenstein Gallery opened its doors to students, staff and featured artists for the exhibition’s opening reception.
The Figurative Art Exhibition is a national, juried visual art competition that focuses on two-dimensional, figurative art. All participants work in painting, drawing or printmaking and are over the age of 18.
Although there were over 450 entries, this year’s exhibit only displayed about 60 pieces.
Five entries were recognized and awarded at the opening reception. Best of show was presented to Alan Fortescue for The Sacred Veil, followed by Dark Self-Portrait by Joe Morzuch in second place, The Director by Joseph Holsapple in third, Self-Portrait With Charcoal by Derek Wilkinson in fourth and Mourning Commute by Arend Neyhouse in fifth.
Brian Kreydatus, a professor of printmaking and life drawing at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, was the juror for this year’s show.
“When finalizing my selections, I looked for no one style or content. What connected all the selected works was a sense of total commitment,” said Kreydatus, “all the pieces selected have this level of commitment to them.”
The Figurative Art Exhibition will be open to view seven days a week between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. until Dec. 8. Lore Degenstein Gallery is closed during university breaks.
