Susquehanna University’s director of string orchestra, Dr. Zachary Levi, performed his debut solo recital in Stretansky Concert Hall on Sept. 4. He performed pieces by Maslanka, Bach, Brahms and Beethoven for his first featured cello performance.

Levi put together a collection of old favorites and new projects for this performance. He revisited a piece from grade school, “Suite No. 1 in G Major” by Johann Sebastain Bach and “Trio” by Beethoven from his undergraduate school senior recital. However, “The Sonata for Piano and Cello in E Minor” by Johanes Brahms and “Out of this World” by David Maslanka were both new projects for Levi.

Although Dr. Levi was the featured performer, he performed alongside his colleagues for the pieces. Dr. Gail Levinsky accompanied Levi on the saxophone, Dr. Jaime Namminga played piano for three of Levi’s pieces and Dr. Jennifer Sacher Wiley played the violin for the final piece of the evening.

“We have one of the most talented and caring music departments that I have ever worked with which made it an absolute joy to collaborate,” said Levi.

Dr. Levi will be collaborating with more colleagues soon. On Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m., Stretansky Concert Hall will hold a faculty recital where he will be performing once more. This performance is free and open to the public. For more information visit: https://www.susqu.edu/calendar/all
