Literary Addition: Two New Magazines at Susquehanna

Posted on November 16, 2023 by The Quill

Campus has two new magazines slotted for publication in the Spring semester of this year.

At the first Student Government Association (SGA) organization summit SOURCE and The Ginko were approved to become student organizations. As these two are magazines, this means we will see the addition of them to the list of on-campus publications. Currently, there are six, but this number will jump to eight once their budgets are approved.

Frank Crofchick, who is the faculty advisor SGA, said that “Other students felt that these publications had a different purpose and could attract other students who have never been published before.”

Kendra Kent, executive president of SGA, says that “SOURCE is for diverse voices.”

One of the key differentiations of SOURCE to other publications on campus is that they are utilizing “ghost writers.” A ghost writer is someone who writes a story on behalf of a person wishing to write but is unable to. This application allows those who may not be confident in their voice to communicate their thoughts to a larger audience.

Along with that, Kent said that Ginko is a sustainability magazine. What that means is it will predominately publish articles about the sciences. Including both creative and research -based thoughts, this will cover things that current publications do not. Kent also said many of The Ginko’s executive board were double majors in creative writing and one of the sciences.

Both publications have begun budget preparations for the spring semester, which is their target release date.
